The story takes place in South Korea in 1991. Hyeon-jung (played by Ha Ji-won) is an outstanding table tennis player who sweeps the nation and aims to win the World Table Tennis Championships by defeating China through her relentless effort and practice. Just as the competition is about to start, Hyeon-jung receives shocking news that she must partner with North Korean table tennis player Li Fen-ki (played by Bae Doona) to compete as a team. Reluctantly, she has to comply with the "military order," initiating a journey filled with challenges and conflicts.
