A heavyweight prisoner, Army General Erwin (played by Robert Redford), arrives at a military prison converted from a castle. Warden Winter (James Gandolfini) greets him with a smile, but soon begins to despise the military pride emanating from him. Erwin hears various accounts of Winter's misdeeds in prison, but with the mindset of serving his sentence in peace, he refrains from causing trouble. Soon, Winter's humiliating punishments provoke Erwin, who starts to restore dignity among the prisoners in his own way, naturally becoming their leader. Feeling threatened, Winter becomes increasingly unreasonable, ordering the shooting of a prisoner, which escalates the conflict between them. Erwin decides to organize a prison riot to compel the higher authorities to investigate Winter. These former soldiers, now prisoners, prepare for combat under high organization and secrecy, with the resolve to return to the battlefield. Following the success of a double agent mission, the prisoners' faction sounds the horn to seize the prison!
