Geophysicist Dr. Yusuke Tadokoro (played by Kazuya Kobayashi) leads his team on a deep-sea scientific expedition, only to discover unusual fissures and mud flows on the ocean floor. After a series of investigations, he concludes that the Japanese archipelago will sink in one year. However, Japanese government officials dismiss Dr. Tadokoro's prediction as an unbelievable lie.
