Sports reporter Duke (Johnny Depp) from the South Pacific Samoan Islands drives to Las Vegas with his attorney friend Dr. Gonzo (Benicio Del Toro) in search of their "American Dream." Along the way, they bring a massive amount of drugs and alcohol and encounter a variety of people. Under the influence of drugs, they experience chaotic and frenzied scenes, blurring the line between hallucination and reality, struggling to determine which is more broken and which is more filthy and twisted. The chaos of the two, combined with the decadent nature of Las Vegas, makes the "American Dream" seem out of reach, leaving them with a trash-filled five-star hotel room, unable to end their hallucinatory journey...
