Young and impulsive cowboy Beauregard Decker (played by Don Murray) travels by bus with his more socially experienced friend Virge (played by Arthur O'Connell) to attend a national cowboy competition. Along the way, they encounter the beautiful showgirl Cherie (played by Marilyn Monroe) at a hotel, and he immediately falls for her, launching into a fervent pursuit. However, his rude and brash approach to courting her puts her off, prompting her to seek ways to escape the cowboy's proposal. Ultimately, it is when the cowboy is awakened by his friend at a bus rest stop that he changes his way of courting and manages to win the heart of the fair lady.
