Buck (played by John Candy) is a cheerful bachelor who, living alone, tends to be a bit clumsy and careless in his daily life. He thought his single life would continue indefinitely, but one day, his brother Bob (Garrett M. Brown) and sister-in-law Cindy (Elaine Bromka) invite him to their home and leave their three children in Buck's care. Soon, Buck's cheerful personality wins over the younger kids, Miles (Macaulay Culkin) and Mele (Gaby Hoffmann), but the rebellious teenager Tia (Jean Louisa Kelly) remains cautious and resistant towards him. However, it doesn’t matter; sincerity is always charming, and as time goes by, a genuine bond develops between Buck and the three kids.
