While escorting the Soul Society's royal treasure "King's Seal," a mysterious force suddenly attacks. Despite the Tenth Division's efforts to fight back, they ultimately lose the treasure, and Toshiro Hitsugaya (voiced by Romi Park) inexplicably flees from the battlefield. Soon, reports of Hitsugaya's retreat spread throughout the Soul Society, and Ichigo Kurosaki (voiced by Masakazu Morita) learns the details from Captain Soi Fon of the Second Division. Ichigo later encounters and rescues the exhausted Hitsugaya, who reveals that the assailant that attacked their escort team and fought him is a deceased Shinigami named Kusajishi. These two were once close friends, and their relationship adds complexity to the attack. Due to Hitsugaya's ambiguous attitude, the Tenth Division faces confinement as punishment. What hidden forces and secrets lie behind Kusajishi? This film is adapted from the original work by Japanese manga artist Tite Kubo and is the second theatrical release of the anime.
