At Mitakihara Municipal Middle School, another peaceful and serene day begins. Second-year student Madoka Kaname (voiced by Aoi Yuuki) enjoys discussing love topics with her friends Sayaka Miki (voiced by Eri Kitamura) and Hitomi Shizuki (voiced by Ryouko Shintani), relishing the joy of youthful girlhood. At this moment, a new student named Homura Akemi (voiced by Chiwa Saito) joins their class, and her mysterious aura makes Madoka quite curious. On their way home from school with Sayaka, Madoka hears cries for help coming from a battered unknown creature, which is being chased by Homura. At this critical moment, they receive help from fellow Mitakihara student, magical girl Mami Tomoe (voiced by Kaori Mizuhashi), and learn that the creature named Kyubey has the ability to help people become magical girls.
