The story begins in an astronomy class, where the protagonist Giovanni is a boy born into a poor family. He has a trustworthy friend named Campanella. The long-awaited Star Festival arrives, and Giovanni goes to Meteor Wheel Hill far from town, lying on the grass and gazing at the starry sky. However, the meteor wheel shaft behind him gradually transforms into the Galactic Station, and by the time he realizes it, he finds himself on a small train wobbling forward. This is a night train, and he discovers that Campanella is also on board. They ride this little train to a dreamlike celestial meadow, seeing the reeds swaying in the wind and the beautiful and magnificent Milky Way...
