In 1901, at the southernmost tip of South America, in Chile's Tierra del Fuego, a wealthy Spanish merchant owned vast lands and erected fences to graze sheep. However, the indigenous people who had long inhabited the area did not understand the capitalist notion of private property, and their unauthorized hunting of sheep infuriated the merchant. The merchant hired a ruthless former British officer and American mercenaries, along with a local of mixed Indigenous and European descent as a guide, to "clear" a safe route to the sea. As the iron hooves of colonization clattered, the embellishments of history were repeatedly performed, revealing that the path to the birth of this nation was paved with corpses and lies.
