After his parents' divorce, the young Kai (voiced by Shota Shimoda) returns to his coastal hometown with his father and begins a new life with his grandfather, who makes umbrellas. The change in his family makes Kai feel gloomy, but he only finds a bit of long-lost joy when arranging music. Yubu (voiced by Manami Suzuki) and Kunio (voiced by Sosuke Saito) discover Kai's musical talent and enthusiastically invite him to join their band "Siren." One night, a mermaid named Lu (voiced by Kanon Tanaka) is drawn to the music Kai plays, and they quickly become friends. However, in the village, mermaids are considered a bad omen, often heralding disaster and death. Eventually, Lu's identity is exposed, and the townsfolk quickly divide into two factions: one group is touched by Lu’s innocent dance, while the other is determined to drive the mermaid out of the human world.
