High school student Kato Masaru (voiced by Ono Daisuke) lives a life dependent on his younger brother. One day, the subway station where Kato Masaru is located is attacked by a random killer. To save others, Kato Masaru is stabbed multiple times and unfortunately dies. However, when he opens his eyes again, he finds himself standing unharmed in a strange room, facing a bizarre black sphere. Together with Kato Masaru are Shimohe Reka (voiced by Hayami Saori), Nishi Jouichirou (voiced by Kaku Takashi), and Suzuki Ryouichi (voiced by Ikeda Shuuichi), all of whom are also dead. Reka tells the bewildered Kato Masaru that the black sphere is called "GANTZ," and what they must do is wait for the commands issued by the sphere. This time, the four are transported to Osaka, where they must confront monsters known as "Slippery" and a grand night parade of a hundred demons. Only by killing all the monsters within the time set by GANTZ can Kato Masaru have the opportunity to return to his brother.
