On October 13, 1972, the plane carrying a Uruguayan rugby team to a match in Chile crashed in the Andes Mountains. More than twenty survivors faced a frigid and harsh environment, doing everything they could to survive and walk out of this desolate death zone. After waiting in hope for rescue efforts that yielded no results, they were forced to confront the grim reality: their food supply dwindled, the altitude brought severe cold, they encountered several avalanches, and they were filled with overwhelming fear of death. After intense discussions and inner struggles, they began to attempt the unimaginable, resorting to cannibalism. Finally, more than fifty days after the plane crash, the weather began to warm, and the rescue team found them. The sixteen survivors emerged from this death zone and were reunited with their families. Directed by American filmmaker Frank Marshall, the disaster survival film "Survival of the Andes" is based on true events from British author Piers Paul Read's report "Alive: The Story of the Andes Survivors." The film's realistic depiction of human beings' desire to survive sparked intense discussions and debates in American society about life and morality.
