This film is adapted from the original work by William Faulkner. The story describes a decaying and moribund wealthy family in a small town in Mississippi, whose situation dramatically changes when a strong young tenant farmer enters their lives. This film is rich in literary artistry, and director Martin Ritt successfully creates an atmosphere and deeply and powerfully portrays the characters of the main leads.
