The story begins with a discovery made by a lunar probe, which accidentally captured a white shadow. Naive Nobita (voiced by Oohara Hiromi) concludes that it must be the Moon Rabbit, only to be mocked by his classmates, including Shizuka (voiced by Kayano Akemi). How can Doraemon (voiced by Mizuta Nobuhiko), Nobita's caring guardian, stand by and do nothing? He takes out the secret gadget "Alternative Club Badge" to protect "imagination" and helps Nobita establish an ideal Moon Rabbit Kingdom on the far side of the moon. Soon after, a mysterious boy named Luka (portrayed by Minagawa Junko) transfers to Nobita's class and is invited into the Moon Rabbit Kingdom. It seems that what was meant to be the product of Nobita's imagination might actually hide unknown civilizations and unpredictable crises within the moon...
