Vice Captain Kurotsuchi Mayuri (voiced by Takashi Nakao) of the 12th Division's Technology Development Bureau is inexplicably attacked during an experiment, leading him to unleash his rage and destroy the experimental equipment, causing a massive explosion that severely damages Soul Society. Meanwhile, Ichigo Kurosaki (voiced by Seiichi Morita) senses significant changes in Soul Society, and learns the details of the event from Urahara Kisuke (voiced by Shinichiro Miki), deciding to head to Soul Society. However, the Shinigami in Soul Society seem to have lost their memories of Ichigo and Rukia Kuchiki (voiced by Fumiko Orikasa), turning their weapons against Ichigo, with former friends becoming enemies.
