During the turbulent era of the late Edo period, amid this crisis, the pro-nationality theorist Souka Shihama (voiced by Shinichiro Miki) meets Akechi Keijirou (voiced by Tomoyuki Morikawa), a retainer of the Tokugawa shogunate. Upon meeting, they both develop feelings for each other. Souka greatly admires Akechi's ideals, while Akechi appreciates Souka's open-mindedness and foresight. On the eve of Souka's departure to study in London, the two finally express their feelings for each other and promise to meet again upon his return. However, when they do meet again, it is on the battlefield, where Akechi has lost both legs and is in a state of despair due to defeat. Souka takes Akechi into his home and cares for him diligently. Yet, the two, being on opposing sides, ultimately cannot escape the tragedy of their era. Just like the "Winter Cicada," born in the wrong season, they cannot avoid a tragic fate. 　This film is adapted from the prequel "Winter Cicada" of the manga "Romance Embracing Spring" by Yuki Nitta. It consists of three parts: "Edo Love Song," "Ezo War Chronicle," and "Tokyo Tragedy."
