Sam (played by James D'Arcy) is a decorated soldier who was deployed to Iraq for a military mission. During his service, Sam is severely injured and returned home, unable to serve again, and he is assigned a job in a prison. Sam is a man with a strong sense of justice; therefore, he is shocked by the dark and deeply rooted culture within the prison. In a place that should enforce the law most strictly, bribes are rampant, drugs are prevalent, and corruption runs deep. While struggling with his job, Sam also faces the trauma of post-traumatic stress disorder from the war. Every day, he is haunted by bloody memories, and in despair, he turns to alcohol for comfort. His poor mental state leads his loved ones to misunderstand him, and gradually they begin to distance themselves from him.
