In the summer of 1945, the shadow of World War II receded from the skies above the Earth. The distant Shikotan Island in the north could not enjoy peace alone; soon after the bombardment, the fleet of Soviet ships arrived, leaving the Japanese islanders uncertain of their fate. Two brothers from the Seno family—10-year-old Junpei (voiced by Yukita Yokoyama) and 7-year-old Kanta (voiced by Junya Tagai)—witnessed the immense changes of the era. After the initial cruelty, the families of the Soviets came to the island, inadvertently planting the seeds of peace and friendship. Through music, children from Japan and the Soviet Union became friends who could sing and play together. The Seno brothers grew close through a toy steam train and a girl named Tanya, who lived next door, but the hard-won friendship was shattered due to a certain incident.
