Josie (Charlize Theron) returns to her hometown in Minnesota with her two children after separating from her husband. To make a living, she decides to work at the local mine despite her father's opposition. After starting her job, Josie realizes why her family is so against her decision—the women working in the mine endure daily sexual insults and harassment from male employees. Even if they remain silent, they are labeled as sluts by the wives of male miners and can be publicly humiliated. Unable to tolerate all of this, Josie decides to take a stand and sue the mining company. This idea puts unprecedented pressure on Josie, intensifying the humiliation she faces at work and alienating other female employees. At home, her children, who suffer from the outside judgment, begin to question their mother's integrity. Josie withstands all of this, just to let the men know the consequences of disrespecting women… This film is based on real events that occurred in 1988 and is the first successful sexual harassment lawsuit in American history.
