The honest and kind-hearted Fujino Zhaozhi (Takahara Ken) leaves the Hangu Dock where he has worked for many years after a disagreement with his boss. After that, he and his wife Shigeko (Kato Tokiko) support themselves by opening a small tavern. Friends from the factory, such as Iwashita (Tanaka Kunie) and Akimoto (Komatsu Masao), often come to drink and chat, filling the tavern with a cheerful and warm atmosphere. Zhaozhi's early love, Sayoko (Oohara Riko), is now the owner of the Kamiyama Ranch. The poverty-stricken life once forced the two lovers to part ways. Time has not dulled the feelings left in their hearts, and Zhaozhi and Sayoko continue to care for each other but bury their emotions deep due to their respective families. A fire destroys Kamiyama Ranch, and Sayoko, suffering in her marriage, finally finds relief and moves to Sapporo. Nevertheless, her strong longing for her lover prompts her to make a silent phone call... Based on the novel of the same name by Yamamoto Hitomi.
