Tulio (voiced by Kevin Kline) and Miguel (voiced by Kenneth Branagh) are two con artists who accidentally obtain a map to the legendary city of gold. Excited beyond belief, they think they have found the path to wealth. With the help of the war horse, Altivo (voiced by Frank Welker), they escape from the ship that imprisoned them and embark on an adventurous journey. The high priest Zeca (played by Armand Assante) attempts to seize power by creating a scheme that elevates Tulio and Miguel to the status of gods to win the hearts of the people, and Tulio and Miguel must rely on the help of the indigenous woman Chel (voiced by Rosie Perez) to reach their destination.
