In a red apartment in New York, a dog named Max (voiced by Louis C.K.) lives an ordinary and happy life with his owner Katie (voiced by Ellie Kemper). He doesn't understand why his owner leaves early and comes back late every day and always hopes that Katie will be with him all the time. One evening, Katie brings home a large dog named Duke (voiced by Eric Stonestreet), which makes Max feel as if the sky is falling. He tries to get rid of Duke, and in the process of their back-and-forth conflict, the two little guys are captured by a dog-catching team. During this time, they encounter a group of rebellious pets led by a rabbit named Snowball (voiced by Kevin Hart) and experience an unprecedented adventure.
