In a remote mountain village primary school in Iran, a group of children listens to the teacher in class. When checking homework, the teacher finds that Mohsen has repeatedly failed to complete his assignments, so he harshly criticizes him and says that if it happens again, he will be expelled immediately. The teacher emphasizes to the students that this is to help them establish good rules. After school that day, a boy named Ahmad suddenly discovers that he has taken his desk mate Mohsen's homework notebook home. Understanding the teacher's earnest guidance, Ahmad realizes that this notebook is Mohsen's ticket to continue listening in class. To return the homework notebook to his desk mate, Ahmad hopes that his mother and grandfather can help, but both attempts fail. So, he can only go on his own to the village across the mountain to find his desk mate and return the notebook. However, since he does not know where his desk mate lives, he encounters numerous obstacles and unimaginable hardships... This film won the Art Film Prize at the 42nd Cannes Film Festival.
