This film is based on the memoirs of Lynn Barber, a reporter for The Sunday Times in the UK. In 1961, 16-year-old Jenny (Carey Mulligan) is tired of her parents constantly urging her to excel in Latin to get into Oxford, while also struggling to please her father, Jack (Alfred Molina), as she pursues a boy. One rainy day, Jenny meets the charming and sophisticated David (Peter Sarsgaard), who captivates her with his charisma and presence. David and his friends take Jenny to upscale bars, art auctions, and fancy restaurants, even convincing her parents to take her on a trip to dreamlike Paris. Amidst the glamorous nightlife, Jenny quickly falls in love, but the reality turns out to be less beautiful than her dreams... This film won the Audience Award and the Cinematography Award at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize in Dramatic Feature, and received nominations for Best Actress (Carey Mulligan) at the 2009 Golden Globe Awards, as well as three Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, Best Actress (Carey Mulligan), and Best Adapted Screenplay.
