When life reaches the age of 40 or 50, it seems one no longer expects love? Yoshino Chiaki (played by Kyoko Koizumi), 45 years old, single, works as a TV producer. She has a decent income and close friends but no longer holds hopes for romance. Feeling that she might end up alone, Chiaki considers her retirement and spends all her savings to buy an old house in the ancient city of Kamakura. While exploring Kamakura, she meets Nagakura Kazuhe (played by Takayuki Nakai), a 50-year-old employee of the local tourism promotion department. The two form a complicated bond, much like Tom and Jerry. Coincidentally, Chiaki's neighbor is Kazuhe's family, who runs a cafe managed by his brother, Shinpei (played by Kōji Sakaguchi). The healing presence of Shinpei rekindles Chiaki's romantic heart, bringing her closer to the Nagakura family. In addition to Shinpei and Kazuhe, there are also the talkative younger sister Noriko (played by Naoko Iijima) and the reclusive Mariko (played by Yuki Uchida), leading to endless amusing events. At 45, with life halfway gone, she has become what others call an "obasan." The idea of love feels daunting and embarrassing yet remains genuinely beautiful. The next love should be treated as the second last love; even with an "obasan's" future, there is still hope.
