After a series of challenging trials, the carefree human young man Jonathan (voiced by Andy Samberg) finally walks down the aisle with the vampire girl Mavis (voiced by Selena Gomez), while the monsters, represented by Mavis's father Dracula (voiced by Adam Sandler), develop an unprecedented closeness with humans. Soon after their marriage, Mavis gives birth to their adorable son Dennis. As the little guy grows day by day, Grandpa Dracula dotes on him, eagerly hoping that Dennis will grow up to be an outstanding vampire. In contrast, Mavis believes her son is just an ordinary human child and wishes to lead Dennis into civilized society, away from the violent and bloody world of monsters. To prevent his daughter’s family from leaving, Dracula comes up with a plan to get rid of Mavis while calling on his friends—Frankenstein, the werewolf, the invisible man, and the mummy—to conduct an intensive training program for Dennis to grow into a vampire within a limited time.
