A once-glorious opera house is gradually falling into decline and faces the fate of being seized by the bank. The current owner, Buster Moon (voiced by Matthew McConaughey), does not want to see his father's lifelong work come to an end, so he decides to organize a singing competition, but accidentally sets the prize at a daunting $100,000, which he cannot afford. Inspired by the prize and their singing dreams, various music enthusiasts come forward to audition, including Rosita the pig (voiced by Reese Witherspoon), Ash the porcupine (voiced by Scarlett Johansson), Mike the mouse singer (voiced by Seth MacFarlane), shy elephant Mina (voiced by Tori Kelly), and gorilla Johnny (voiced by Taron Egerton).
