Takaoka Manabu (played by Masaharu Fukuyama), who is about to become a physics professor at Teito University, is an absolute eccentric in the realm of physics, with a way of thinking that is unlike anyone else. One day, female police officer Utsumi Kaoru (played by Yuki Shibasaki) takes on a bizarre case of spontaneous human combustion. With no clues and a strong desire to solve the case, she, through her colleague Kusanagi Shunpei, reaches out to Takaoka Manabu. Initially reluctant to get involved, Takaoka eventually agrees to assist her after being persistently asked by Utsumi. After gathering a series of evidence, Takaoka uses his profound knowledge of physics to reveal the criminal's method, helping the police to successfully solve the case. One day, Utsumi Kaoru encounters another strange murder case. A young boy named Toyohiro claims he had an out-of-body experience and saw the suspect's car. If what Toyohiro claims is true, then the suspect’s innocence can be proven. However, how can the police treat an out-of-body experience as evidence? Is Toyohiro lying? Naturally, Utsumi finds her "light" once again—Takaoka Manabu. After investigating the scene, Takaoka proves that Toyohiro indeed saw the suspect's car, thereby clearing the suspect's name while exposing the so-called "out-of-body experience," leading to the truth being revealed.
