The story takes place in a fictional future world, where humanity has lost its control of the seas due to negligence and carelessness. The ocean has become a realm that is longed for yet unreachable, dominated by a powerful force known as "Deep Sea Ship." In order to resist this force, a group of girls known as "Kantai" has emerged, within whom reside the spirits of ships. They transform into various battleships, tirelessly striving for the peace of humanity. On a daily basis, the Kantai live and train at their base called "Sakura Defense Base." One day, a lively girl named Fubuki (voiced by Sumire Uesaka) appears before everyone. Newly arrived, she is full of ambitions and eagerly joins the new life in the fleet, where an exciting and thrilling routine begins.
