Yato (voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya) is a down-and-out god who has no fixed residence, takes odd jobs, and dresses in sportswear. Without a shrine dedicated to him and with his weapon, a "Regalia," eager to change employers, he still harbors the grand dream of being "a god worshipped by the masses." For the price of a five-yen offering, he accepts various commissions, ranging from slaying monsters to cleaning. Thus, Yato traverses between this world and the next, living in a bizarre world alongside eight million gods, "Regalias" that serve them, humans, and spirits. One day, an ordinary middle school girl, Hiyori Iki (voiced by Maaya Uchida), unexpectedly connects with Yato and acquires a strange condition—her soul and body can easily separate. Hiyori asks Yato to solve her problem, but Yato is troubled by the fact that he lacks a "Regalia." Soon, Yato's destined "Regalia" appears, and Yato bestows the name Yukine (voiced by Yuki Kaji) upon him... This anime is adapted from the fantasy manga of the same name by Adachitoka.
