Kobayashi (voiced by Mutsumi Tamura) is an ordinary programmer who saves a dragon named Tohru (voiced by Yuki Kuwahara) by chance. To repay Kobayashi's life-saving kindness, Tohru transforms into a maid and comes to live in Kobayashi's home, marking the beginning of their cohabitation life with the dragon maid. Kanna Kamui (voiced by Maria Naganawa), who is imaginative and free-spirited, Elma (voiced by Yuki Takada), who seems to hold deep prejudices against humans but doesn’t appear to be very smart, the caring and composed older sister Lucoa (voiced by Minami Takahashi), and Fafnir (voiced by Daisuke Ono), who hates humans yet is irresistibly attracted to games invented by them, all appear one after another around Kobayashi following Tohru.
