This film is a playful work of renowned director Alfred Hitchcock, who deliberately experiments with lengthy shots, many of which last over several minutes. One shot moves from the outdoors to indoors and weaves back and forth among more than a dozen actors for about ten minutes, creating an extremely striking and captivating effect. Bergman's passionate performance is also remarkable. In 1830, Australia is a territory for British convicts, and a British youth (played by Michael Wilding) travels to Australia with his uncle, becoming entangled in a complicated relationship with a couple of unique background.
