This TV series is adapted from the novel of the same name by famous wuxia novelist Wo Longsheng, divided into three parts: "The Clouds Break Open," "The Sun and Moon Divine Skill," and "The Golden Sword's Romantic Story." A kind-hearted Xiao Ling (Zhou Shaodong) serendipitously saves the gravely wounded Yue Yungul, and not only learns the inner skill needed to treat his own condition of the Three Yin Deadly Pulse, but also gets to know her daughter Yue Xiaochai (Shen Hairong, Zhang Yongyong). After Yue Yungul dies unhealed, Xiao Ling and Yue Xiaochai develop true feelings for each other while escorting her remains back home. They later get separated during a surprise attack from enemies, and Xiao Ling falls off a cliff. He is rescued by San Sheng, who lives at the valley's bottom, and is taken as a disciple. Six years later, equipped with impressive skills, Xiao Ling bids farewell to his master and returns to the jianghu. Due to his naivete, he becomes sworn brothers with Shen Mufeng (Liu Lin) of the Baihua Manor and takes on the role of the third manor master. Shen Mufeng, who seeks to unify the world, attempts to conquer the jianghu using force, and many see him and Xiao Ling as major enemies. Gradually, Xiao Ling earns the respect of the jianghu community through his character and martial virtues, becoming a leader and leading others to confront Shen Mufeng and Lan Yutang (Jiang Hourn). The emotional entanglements between him, Yue Xiaochai, and Bai Li Bing become complex and confusing.
