The story takes place in the 1930s. Wealthy heiress Mu Peiyun (played by Ye Quanzhen) encounters danger while traveling and is rescued by college student Ye Yaohua (played by Xie Zuwu). Peiyun, who secretly develops feelings for Yaohua, convinces her father Mu Tianhong (played by Li Tiejun) to promise her to Yaohua. However, her father wants her to marry the more suitable Mo Liqun (played by Wang Can).
