One of Qiong Yao's "Six Dreams" series. The Zhang family has three beautiful daughters who from a young age have been raised under their mother's strict traditional education, which forbade them from getting close to men, proclaiming that all men in the world are untrustworthy. The eldest daughter, Zhang Nianqi (played by Liu Xuehua), loves Yang Yin (played by Zhang Peihua) and elopes to marry him. However, under their mother's interference, Yang Yin's parents deceive Nianqi by claiming Yang Yin is already married, and this can only be considered bigamy. Unable to bear the blow, Nianqi, in despair, takes her own life. The second daughter, Nianyu (played by Yu Xiaofan), idolizes her teacher, but after her mother publicly reveals letters expressing the teacher's concern for Nianyu, it causes a stir at school, leading to Nianyu experiencing mental issues from the dual blows. Due to the tragic fates of her two sisters, their mother reflects deeply and lets Nianchen (played by Jin Somei) pursue her love, Xu Liqun (played by Xu Nailin), far away. However, tragedy cannot be changed.
