Kino (voiced by Ai Maeda) is a traveler who roams from country to country, accompanied by her partner, "Eruemes," a talking motorcycle. Kino and Eruemes travel to various countries, spending only three days in each, absorbing the local customs and culture, and then leaving for another place. Kino used to be an unnamed girl from the "Country of Adults," where it is mandated that children undergo surgery to become "Adults" at the age of 12. Influenced by the traveler Kino, she does not wish to become an "Adult," so she escapes from her country on Eruemes and begins her journey around the world under the name Kino... This work is an alternative fantasy fable presented in an episodic format, telling the story of Kino's travels. As the audience follows Kino through a variety of countries, the seemingly absurd customs of each land reflect the author's contemplations and inquiries about the world. This anime is adapted from Keito Shizuka's light novel "Kino's Journey."
