In the winter of 1948, on the Huaihai battlefield, telephone operator Xiao Yu (played by Huang Xiaolei) saves a rural girl, Yu Xiang (played by Li Xiuming), who is about to hang herself. Unable to repay him, Yu Xiang is willing to offer herself and shares her tragic story of being homeless. The soldiers sympathize with this lonely girl and let her stay in the cooking team to help.
