Claire Kubik (Ashley Judd), a powerful attorney in San Francisco, finds her husband Tom Kubik (James Caviezel) suddenly seized by the FBI and secretly tried in a military court near Los Angeles, accused of killing nine civilians in El Salvador during his service. Shocked, Claire drops everything and travels to Los Angeles, hiring local military court attorney Charles Grimes (Morgan Freeman) to defend Tom alongside the young defense attorney appointed by the military, Lieutenant Embry (Adam Scott). The trio’s investigation faces numerous obstacles from the military, and Claire’s personal safety is severely threatened.
