Marty (Colin Farrell) is a heavy-drinking screenwriter who is struggling for inspiration while writing a screenplay titled "Seven Psychopaths." His friend Billy (Sam Rockwell) and Hans (Christopher Walken) make a living by stealing dogs and then returning them to their owners for a reward. Billy provides Marty with some ideas for his script, including a crazy hitman who leaves behind a playing card after each kill, a Vietnamese avenger, and a Quaker who commits suicide. Billy steals a dog that belongs to Charlie (Woody Harrelson), a ruthless gang leader. When Charlie loses his beloved dog, he goes on a rampage searching for it and ultimately kills Hans's wife. In a fit of anger after learning about this, Billy kills his girlfriend, who also happens to be Charlie's lover, and leaves behind a playing card. It turns out Billy is the crazy hitman. He, along with Marty and Hans, continues writing the screenplay in the wilderness while luring Charlie into a one-on-one duel...
