High school student Harumi Kaito (voiced by Takahiro Sakurai) is an irredeemable bookworm who strives hard to get into a prestigious school in Tokyo so that he can read newly published books as soon as possible. He lives alone in the city, surrounded by books all day. Among his collection, Harumi especially enjoys the works of the mysterious author Akiyama Shin, known for their varied styles. One day, while at a café, Harumi is brutally killed by a thug while trying to protect a girl who is focused on her writing. As he approaches the afterlife, he desperately wishes to finish Akiyama Shin's final novel in the "Great Sin Series." Fueled by this determination, he returns to the human world, only to find himself inhabiting the body of a long-haired dachshund. Soon after, dog Harumi encounters a quirky girl, Natsuya Mutsuki (voiced by Marina Inoue), who can understand his thoughts, and it turns out she is also Akiyama Shin. The collision of a reading fanatic and a writing enthusiast sets off an interesting story... The film is adapted from the original work by Junpei Guni (original) and Tetsuhiro Nabeshima (illustrations).
