In 2071, with the realization of faster-than-light travel technology, humanity was able to move conveniently within the solar system. However, due to a design flaw, this technology caused the explosion of the Moon, and countless lunar fragments were attracted to Earth, resulting in an unprecedented disaster. The surviving humans escaped Earth and began to establish homes throughout the solar system. Due to this catastrophe, national governments and other power institutions became extremely unstable, and law enforcement issues became a major problem. Some organizations started allowing individuals to capture wanted criminals in exchange for rewards, which is known as "bounty hunting." Spike and Jet are bounty hunters who pilot the spaceship Bebop, making a living by capturing fugitives for bounties. During their journey through space, they meet Faye, a beautiful woman burdened with enormous debt and obsessed with money, and Ed, a computer prodigy, and adopt Ein, a data dog with high intelligence. Thus, the four of them and one dog wander through the vast universe, experiencing various joys and sorrows in their lives while also searching for their own pasts.
