Inspector Sam (Leon Lai) of the Hong Kong Major Crime Unit leads a team to dismantle a transnational crime organization's den and apprehends one of its leaders, Night (Yin Ziwei). However, he is unaware that Night, with the help of a highly-paid and eloquent legal team, will be sentenced to only 3 years in prison for aiding and abetting human smuggling. Though disappointed, Sam temporarily breathes a sigh of relief and goes to Paris with his wife Ann for a getaway. Unexpectedly, a hitman sent by Night’s brother Day is lying in wait in Paris. While shopping at a mall, Ann is tragically assassinated by the hitman. Although Sam narrowly escapes, he struggles to come to terms with the reality. After returning to Hong Kong, Sam resigns from his position as inspector and begins a reclusive life. However, after accidentally meeting a beautiful Japanese journalist (Seto Asaka), he starts to gain a new understanding of life.
