In 1972, Chinese mine clearer Wei Li was performing demining operations at a port in Vietnam when a mine exploded, seriously injuring him and causing him to fall into the water. A Vietnamese female military doctor, Nguyen Trinh, jumped into the sea to save Wei Li and brought him to a military hospital. It turned out that they were childhood friends from the banks of the beautiful river at the China-Vietnam border. Once, when Nguyen Trinh fell into the water, Wei Li had jumped in to save her. Reuniting after so long, their affection deepened, and the fire of love ignited in Nguyen Trinh's heart. Her classmate Li Wenxiong returned from studying abroad and passionately pursued Nguyen Trinh, but she rejected his advances and loved Wei Li deeply. When Wei Li recovered and returned home, Nguyen Trinh gave him a rose as a symbol of her love. After the China-Vietnam relations became tense, due to Nguyen Trinh's deep love for Wei Li, she was demobilized and returned to her hometown to work as a doctor at a health center. One day, while crossing the river to buy medicine, she coincidentally met Wei Li at the China border. It turned out that after his injury, Wei Li had also transitioned to civilian life in his hometown. They reunited after being apart, reminiscing about their friendship with reluctance. Later, the situation at the border changed dramatically. Li Wenxiong became the head of the public security station near the beautiful river and continued to harass Nguyen Trinh, even sending her to be a "health doctor" for government advisors, trying to force her compliance. Nguyen Trinh's father, Nguyen Dezhong, learned of this news and secretly sent his daughter across the river to hide at a friend's house in China, which surprisingly turned out to be Wei Li's father's home. Nguyen Trinh and Wei Li became partners. A year later, Nguyen Trinh gave birth to a daughter named Xiao Mei. However, good times did not last, as Li Wenxiong was ordered to occupy a small island in the river—which was a Chinese territory—and continually stirred up trouble at the border, increasing tensions. Nguyen Trinh found it hard to return home, and a bomb from the Vietnamese army killed Wei Chunshan, who was gathering medicine for Nguyen Dezhong. The righteous Nguyen Dezhong was extremely dissatisfied with the Vietnamese authorities' invasion of China and demanded to go to the island to teach his son, Nguyen Lu, a lesson. The public security soldiers stationed at the island shot and killed Nguyen Dezhong. This bloody lesson awakened Nguyen Lu, who sought revenge on Li Wenxiong but was killed by him. Upon returning to see the tragic state of her family destroyed, Nguyen Trinh was filled with sorrow and anger. At this time, Li Wenxiong came to pressure her for intelligence on the Chinese side, and unable to endure any longer, she struck Li Wenxiong and was thrown into prison. After suffering torment, Nguyen Trinh woke up, bearing her daughter, Xiao Mei. At home, Xiao Mei was also thinking of her mother and ran to the riverbank to search for her, stepping on a landmine buried by the Vietnamese army… Public security soldier A Lun released Nguyen Trinh and helped her cross the river. While paddling across, she was unfortunately shot and fell into the water, where she was seen by Wei Li, who had been waiting for her return at the riverbank. He disregarded everything and jumped into the water to rescue his wife. At that moment, Li Wenxiong fired a series of wicked bullets, and both Wei Li and Nguyen Trinh sank into the water, blood staining the beautiful river…
