The film is adapted from the life of the world-renowned motorcycle racer Burt Munro, vividly retelling the ups and downs of a legendary racer's life. The story begins in 1899 when Munro (played by Anthony Hopkins) was born into this world. Despite being frail and sickly as a child, even receiving a “death notice” from doctors, Munro fortunately grew up healthy. In 1915, Munro got his first motorcycle, and thus began his career racing against the wind. Even at the age of seventy-two, he never gave up on his lifelong dream. He modified the Indian Scout motorcycle he purchased in the 1920s and rode from New Zealand to America. Along the way, he met a series of interesting friends, including the cross-dresser Tina (Chris Williams), the widow Ida (Diane Ladd), and the salesman Frank (Paul Rodriguez). With their help and encouragement, he ultimately set a new world record.
