Kenji, the youngest son of the Sasaki family (played by Inowaki Kai), secretly practices the piano. His father, Ryohei (played by Kagawa Teruyuki), is an ordinary office worker. His mother, Kei (played by Koizumi Kyoko), is a housewife. His older brother, Takashi (played by Koyanagi Yu), is a busy college student working part-time. At first glance, this appears to be a very ordinary Japanese family, but in reality, each member harbors secrets they don’t want others to know. Until one day, Kenji returns to an empty home, and everything begins to surface... The film is a microcosm of a family of four in Tokyo, intricately revealing the internal turmoil and depicting the struggles of each member, reflecting the survival situations faced by countless people in Tokyo and Japan amidst the upheavals of changing global economic patterns, financial crises, and wars in the Middle East. This film was selected as one of the top ten Japanese films of 2008 by "Movie Weekly." It won the Jury Prize in the "Un Certain Regard" section at the Cannes Film Festival, along with two awards for Best Screenplay and Best Film at the 3rd Asian Film Awards (AFA).
