In the autumn of 1928, Chiang Kai-shek (played by Sun Feihu) took measures to strengthen his power by reducing troops and reorganizing irregular armies to recruit more soldiers. However, the warlord Sun Dianying (played by Hu Qingshi) was unwilling to be absorbed by Chiang and decided to carve out his own territory and be self-sufficient. Using the excuse of lacking military funds, Sun Dianying took the opportunity of military exercises to march into Dongling, planning to rob the tombs of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty and Empress Dowager Cixi at the right moment. Before carrying out the tomb robbery, Sun Dianying, under the pretext of going to Nanjing to collect military funds, delayed the patriotic Deputy Commander Na Xinting (played by Hao Zhiben), and then appointed his trusted captain Zhang Houqi (played by Peng Jun) to directly command the tomb robbery operation. They found the entrance, but due to narrow paths and lack of light, the soldiers could only be hoisted into the cave. The tomb was set with traps, leading to consecutive casualties among the soldiers. Zhang Houqi used both rewards and threats, ultimately succeeding in opening Empress Dowager Cixi’s tomb. The soldiers surged into the tomb and, faced with countless jewels and treasures, fell into frenzy. In a bid to claim the treasures, the soldiers engaged in fierce fighting inside the ancient tomb.
