In the autumn of 1928, Chiang Kai-shek (played by Sun Feihu) took measures to strengthen his power by reducing troops and reorganizing irregular armies to recruit more soldiers. However, the warlord Sun Dianying (played by Hu Qingshi) was unwilling to be absorbed by Chiang and decided to carve out his own territory and be self-sufficient.
