After a plane crash, only a few of the 109 passengers survive. Psychologist Claire (played by Anne Hathaway) is sent by her mentor to provide therapy to the survivors, but she finds herself gradually falling in love with one of them, Eric (played by Patrick Wilson), a former vice president of a securities firm. Meanwhile, Claire notices that someone is often watching her outside the clinic, she is being followed, patients mysteriously disappear, and even airline staff threaten her to stay out of it. This leads Claire to suspect that the airline is covering up mechanical failures, deliberately using operational errors to deflect attention from investigations, and subsequently harming the surviving passengers who sense the truth. As Claire's relationship with Eric deepens, the number of patients begins to dwindle, Claire loses contact with her sister's family, and even her own safety becomes threatened...
