After the end of World War II, a large number of homesick American soldiers disembarked at the San Francisco port and were embraced by their long-awaited relatives. However, Paul Sutton (Keanu Reeves) waited in vain for his wife's arrival. As the sun set, he trudged home in loneliness, only to find that his wife had changed; her eyes were filled with money, no longer with him. Seeing the lack of warmth in his home, Paul felt no desire to stay, and again left for work. On the train, he met the beautiful girl Victoria Aragón (Aitana Sánchez-Gijón). Because they hit it off, Paul took care of her along the way. Grateful, Victoria opened up about her misfortunes, and after hearing her story, Paul decided to accompany her back to her hometown and help her as much as he could.
