In the late Qing dynasty and early Republic, society was in turmoil. The ancient and decaying Qing Empire collapsed, and the life of its last emperor, Puyi (played by Huang Zihua), along with all his subjects, underwent earth-shattering changes. In this changing world, the emperor married two women of completely different personalities: Wanrong (played by Jiang Wenli) as his empress and Wenxiu (played by Qin Hailu) as a concubine. As the war between the factions broke out, he and his wife left the ancestral palace. The Western-educated Wanrong longed for a free life, while Puyi, harboring dreams of restoration, reluctantly collaborated with the Japanese. Wenxiu felt increasingly neglected and yearned for change. Puyi became the first emperor to be "forced" into a divorce by law, establishing the puppet state of Manchukuo under Japanese manipulation. In their daily lives, he and Wanrong harmed each other, enduring emotional upheaval and torment. He is a special citizen shaped by the chaos of the times, destined to embark on a journey filled with blood and tears…
